SEVALCO (Columbian Chemicals)

The Project

The demolition of an existing carbon black manufacturing plant covering approximately 14 acres together with appropriate land remediation works.

Location – Avonmouth, Bristol
Client – Sevalco (Columbian Chemicals)
Role – CDM Coordinator

The Problem

The works required two separate Principal Contractors to undertake the works packages simultaneously.

The close proximity of the demolition and high level works to the remediation project exaggerated the Health and Safety risks to both contractors.

The remediation works were to be undertaken within the demolition drop zone.

The Solution

SQE provided the CDM Coordination on these simultaneous projects; together with programme management and day to day responsibility for health and safety on site.

The works were planned and coordinated to ensure continuity of works and minimising disruption and delays whilst maintaining health and safety compliance throughout the project.

Daily coordination meetings and onsite presence ensured compliance throughout.
