Health and Safety on the TV – Top Gear

Now, at risk of sounding like miserable old farts, is it just us or are health and safety breaches in the media common place?

Not to kick a horse when it’s down but look at the Top Gear Burma special. We were really surprised to see so many health & safety breaches on a BBC programme. We’re told every day that we’ve become obsessed with health and safety but as Top Gear proves you just have to go to a country that doesn’t have the same stringent health and safety legislation and lives are readily put at risk.

I would hope and imagine that there were other safety measures in place that we didn’t see on screen but like all British organisations they have a responsibility to all their employees and this wasn’t apparent to the viewer.

Unfortunately, not all men were created equal in terms of common sense. To some taking on these sort of construction projects, with a clear disregard for their own welfare and that of others, might seem like a good idea. When you look at an organisation such as the BBC they need to be beyond reproach when it comes to the image they represent to possibly impressionable people.

Now here’s your challenge watch the video and then on our twitter page, list all the UK health and safety breaches!

On a lighter note… it’s always good to take the mick out of yourself, here’s a comedians take on health and safety:
