Health and Safety in Haulage and Construction sites in the 1960s

We came across this video and thought it made a great watch as a comparison between the construction / haulage health and safety culture of today and years gone by.

It was filmed in the 1960s by British Transport Films and shows trucks hauling cement 7 tonnes at a time up to the construction site of a hydro electric damn in Scotland. It is focused primarily on the the transport side of the construction project but also shows the attitudes towards health and safety that would give a site manager a heart attack in today’s world! If you don’t have time to watch the whole thing just skip to 4 minutes in  to watch them loading a truck with a large piece of equipment.

SQE works closely with the renewable energy sector (solar and wind etc) so this video is particularly interesting as this features was one of the very early renewable energy sources in the UK.
